A coffee with Alex Padula is the first of a series of informal interviews from Vettabase with smart key people of the database landscape. In this episode, we’ll have a conversation with Alex Padula, author of TidesDB.
TidesDB is an embedded database library written in C. It can be used in MariaDB, and potentially other databases, as a storage engine. It is transactional but, instead of acquiring locks, it detects conflicts on commit. It uses the LSM model. While it’s not ready to replace InnoDB for the general case, TidesDB is the most promising storage engine in the MariaDB ecosystem.
Federico Razzoli will interview Alex. Vettabase has partnered with TidesDB, and Federico contributes to TidesDB testing.
